About Us

Whitehall Canarian Kennel was founded on the concept of uncompromised excellence.

COAT OF ARMS CROPPED

Presa Canario / Dogo Canario / Perro de Presa Canario are three names commonly used for this amazing breed, hence the word “Canarian” in our kennel’s name.  All three names refer to the same breed of dog native to the Canary Islands;  we prefer and use the more commonly used traditional name of Presa Canario.

We exclusively breed world class foundation stock with thoughtfully selected, internationally recognized champion and working bloodlines and are especially focused on PennHIP tested best-of-breed hip genetics.  Our kennel’s foundation stock and the dogs that we select to breed to are simply the best of the best.

On June 19, 2015 we birthed our first litter of nine world class puppies: five females and four males, of which six were red brindles and three were fawn brindles, with markings ranging from light to heavy.

About Zoe – Our Foundation Dam & the Mother of the June 2015 Puppy Litter

In 2013, after years of extensive research and talking with breeders throughout the country, we flew from Vermont to Colorado and brought home our first Presa Canario puppy, Zoe de Canarian Bull.

Zoe de Canarian Bull

(Whitehall Canarian Kennel’s) Zoe de Canarian Bull

Zoe’s parents are both from world class bloodlines, endowing Zoe with a pedigree which includes 52 registry verified national, multi-national, and/or international champions in her seven most recent prior generations.

Zoe’s father, Bravo’s Dyno, is a Presa Canario whose name is instantly recognized in Presa Canario circles worldwide and is considered one of the premier Presa Canario dogs in the United States. His breeder is one of America’s world class Presa Canario kennels. Dyno won Best in Show / Best of Breed in Show / Best Male in Show at the 2013 U.P.P.C.C. National Specialty Show as well as placing second in the 2013 D.C.C.A. American Monographica Adult Male Class.

Zoe’s mother, Sativa de Canarian Bull, was the result of selective and thoughtful breeding by another of this country’s top kennels. She won first place in the 2012 D.C.C.A. American Monographica Female Intermediate Class and also won first place in the 2012 D.C.C.A. National Specialty Female Intermediate Class. Zoe is the spitting image of her mother; they could be mistaken for twins.

About Hip Dysplasia

All large breed dogs need to be concerned about an inheritable disease known as hip dysplasia. Prior to breeding large breed dogs all conscientious breeders have both the male and the female tested for this crippling, degenerative disease.

The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) test for canine hip dysplasia is well known and has been around for a very long time; however, the OFA test is primarily a subjective test.

The PennHIP test (developed by the prestigious University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine) is an objective test based upon precise measurements and mathematical calculations which requires veterinarians to both take a special training course and become certified in order to submit radiographs for evaluation. Over the past twenty plus years PennHIP has gained popularity as the preferred testing method for canine hip dysplasia.

About Zoe’s Hips: Scored Top 2 & Ranked Top 3 Worldwide

Zoe was PennHIP tested on February 25, 2015 at 23 months of age. Her PennHIP Evaluation Report test results were better than anybody could have imagined; each hip is scored separately and Zoe’s hip scores were 0.22 and 0.33.

Zoe’s 0.22 individual hip score is SCORED SECOND BEST WORLDWIDE of all PennHIP tested male and female Presa Canario dogs, a mere 0.01 point difference from the very best PennHIP individual hip test score ever recorded worldwide by a Presa Canario.

About Our Breeding Program for Superior Hip Genetics

After having our veterinarian confirm all of the above with ANTECH Imaging Services, which administers the PennHIP tests and results, we concluded that Zoe’s PennHIP test results demanded that we find a male dog with superior PennHIP results to breed her with.

We were planning to drive Zoe from Vermont to Georgia to breed her with a remarkable male Presa Canario stud dog; instead, we changed direction and drove Zoe to a kennel in Illinois, just outside of St. Louis, Missouri, where we had discovered a male Presa Canario with superior PennHIP results, a genetic lineage of PennHIP verifiable superior hips, and an impressive pedigree of multi-champion parents as well as other champion forebears.

Whitehall Canarian Kennel is committed to breeding world class Presa Canario foundation stock with thoughtfully selected, internationally recognized champion and working bloodlines and we are especially focused on PennHIP tested best-of-breed hip genetics. Our puppies are offered with the expectation that they have been bred given all the genetic advantages possible to produce a puppy with genetically superior hips to minimize the potential of hip dysplasia in both the puppy and his or her offspring.

About Iago, the Sire of the June 2015 Puppy Litter

Iago’s father, Multi-Champion Oscar de Casa del Presa, is both a national champion and an American Rare Breed Association champion bred by a very well known and highly regarded American kennel. With PennHIP scores of 0.34 and 0.41 Oscar’s scores have him RANKED TOP 10% WORLDWIDE of all PennHIP tested Presa Canario dogs.  Iago’s and Oscar’s PennHIP scores evidence PennHIP verifiable genetics that has successfully been passed from Oscar to his son Iago, the sire of our June 2015 litter of puppies.

About the June 2015 Puppy Litter

On June 19, 2015 Zoe whelped a litter of world class puppies.  We successfully placed the nine puppies which featured a combination of thoughtfully selected, internationally recognized champion and working bloodlines and PennHIP tested best-of-breed hip genetics.

????????????????????????????????????

Whitehall Canarian’s Apollo (male red brindle with pronounced markings)

The litter consists of five females and four males, of which six are very desirable red brindles and three are gorgeous fawn brindles, with markings ranging from light to pronounced to heavy.

The puppies were lovingly hand raised in a country home in Vermont with their mother by a family of adults and children of wide ranging ages, allowing the puppies the opportunity to grow and develop in an environment full of rich and diverse life experiences that will enhance their development into well rounded and well adjusted puppies and adult dogs.

We welcome the opportunity to discuss with you any questions you may have about the puppies and the breed.  Please feel free to call or email us!

The puppies were offered to approved kennels and homes. For breeders we strive to discover the best match of our puppies with your breeding stock or goals. For home placements we strive to match the right puppy with the right home. Partnerships may be considered with select responsible and reliable breeders and individuals.

Reservations for puppies were accepted in the order in which deposits are received. The puppies were available for pick-up in Vermont, or arrangements could be made for the shipment of puppies worldwide via approved carriers.

We are conveniently and easily accessible by car in Vermont near White River Junction at the intersection of I-91 and I-89.  By air we are served by the Lebanon Municipal Airport in Lebanon, NH (LEB), by the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in Manchester, NH (MHT), and by Burlington International Airport in Burlington, VT (BTV).  Amtrack train service and Greyhound bus service arrivals and departures are scheduled daily in White River Junction.
